Information for Authors

AUTOTESTCON is the largest conference focused on support systems for military and aerospace systems, and is sponsored annually by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). IEEE AUTOTESTCON 2012 conference will be held September 10-13, 2012 at the Disneyland Resort. The technical program for AUTOTESTCON 2012 will be determined by the interests of those participants submitting technical papers or organizing a technical session on an appropriate topic dealing with System Readiness, in general, and Automatic Test technology, in particular.

The Theme for AUTOTESTCON 2012, "Mission Assurance through Advanced ATE", reflects the focus of the technical program on the transformations happening right now in the way DoD and industry perform maintenance.

Technical papers are now being solicited, as are proposals for technical sessions, addressing topics such as: Artificial Intelligence in Test, ATS/TPS Management, BIT/BIST, Closed-Loop Diagnostics, Commercialization of Military Maintenance, Condition-Based Maintenance, Data Acquisition, Diagnostic Maturation, Design-For-Test, Diagnostic Strategies, Fault Tolerant Systems, Future Logistics Approaches, Information Frameworks, Interoperable Test Systems, Maintenance Architectures, Measurement Science and Uncertainty, MEMS Technology, Next Generation Test Systems, Prognostics and Health Management, Remote Diagnostics, Safety Issues, Sensor Technology, Synthetic Instruments, Test Generation, Test Requirements, Test Standards, TPS Transportability, Vehicle Health Management.

Student Paper Contest

AUTOTESTCON 2012 will conduct a Student Paper Contest for both graduate and undergraduate student papers within the topic scope. Cash awards of $500 will be presented for the best papers in both categories plus cash awards of $400 for 2nd place papers in both categories. Please pay careful attention to all instructions for manuscript preparation and make sure the paper is identified as either a Graduate or Undergraduate Student Paper when submitting the final paper. In addition, student travel subsidies ranging from $300 to $1000 depending on student location will be provided to as many students as possible courtesy of the IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Society.

Students must attend the conference and present their paper in order to receive a travel subsidy or best paper award. Travel award winners are selected by the Technical Program Chairs from the abstract submissions and will be notified via email. The best paper awards are chosen by the Technical Program Chairs during the paper review process and are based solely on the written paper. Best paper award winners will be announced at the Awards Banquet on Thursday during the conference.

Instructions for Submitting Abstracts

Paper submission and review will be conducted in two stages. Authors are asked to submit a 300-500 word abstract for a proposed paper related to one of the topics above. Note that abstracts are a requirement of the AUTOTESTCON Board of Directors. The abstract should identify the problem to be solved, a summary of key results, and a discussion of the main contributions. Authors of accepted abstracts will then be invited to submit a full paper, which should be approximately 6 pages in length and identify related literature in the field. Per IEEE regulations, all submitted papers will undergo a peer review for technical content and topical suitability. Session proposals should include proposed papers/presentations and speakers. The closing date for receipt of session proposals and paper abstracts is April 30, 2012. Papers and abstracts should be submitted in electronic form using EDAS at http://edas.info. Authors will be notified by May 30, 2012 whether they will be invited to submit a full paper.

The Conference Proceedings will be included in the IEEE Interactive Electronic Library (IEL) as part of IEEE Xplore. All authors who have been accepted must register for the conference and attend the conference to present their paper. Authors who do not attend the conference to present their papers, or arrange for a co-author or knowledgeable colleague to present their paper in the absence of the primary author, will not have their paper published in the IEEE IEL and IEEE Xplore, per latest IEEE policy.

IMPORTANT DATES:
Acceptance Notification: May 30, 2012
Final Paper Submission: August 1, 2012

Author Registration

Each lead author must visit the EDAS web site and establish an account with a username and password. The lead author then logs in to the EDAS system to actually submit the abstract, and later, the paper via the following steps:

  1. Visit http://edas.info and click the New User button.
  2. Create your profile. Only the five fields with the red asterisk are required. These fields are first & last name, affiliation (company or organization), country, e-mail address, and status. When the fields are filled in, check the Privacy Policies box and click the Add Person button.
[note: if you select USA as the country, you will get a message asking for your state]
  3. You will receive an e-mail containing your password. Your email address and the given password must later be used to access the system during the following steps, so be careful to remember it.
  4. You can then return to the EDAS log-in page (http://edas.info) and change your assigned password to one that is easier to remember. To do this, click on the My Profile tab, and then click on change your password. Be sure to record your user name, password and ID number for later reference.

Submission of Abstract

Please login at http://edas.info/N11707 and follow the following steps:

  1. Type in the title of the abstract in the block and enter your abstract in the text field. Then select the topic area(s) your abstract falls under best.
[note: This will help in choosing the reviewers. The abstract will be uploaded later]
  2. Click the Submit button.
  3. The next page you see will have a large green check mark and a statement that the paper was registered. The last row says Manuscript, and has an icon of a yellow folder next to it. Click on this icon, and then you can upload your abstract the next page. Manuscript is used to refer to the PDF form of your abstract. You can also upload the abstract by clicking the My Papers tab at the top of the screen, and then select the upload icon on the same row as the name of your abstract. The upload icon (third column from the right) will open a dialog box that will enable you to select and upload the abstract file via the web or via FTP.
